Loved it! Love all the books in series. Wish it was true! Children are totally underestimated in life. These books should be made into a series. My step-son has read most of the books, it's his step-mum who has encouraged him to keep reading.

I chose this rating because it is a great book and I loved it I could not put it down it was like it was really true. The bits I liked about this book is the bit where James comes in and kisses Amy and also where they get into a big fight. I recommend this book to anyone from 13-16 because it is a great book and very exciting.

Excellent Book!

I recently picked up my wife's copy of this book. She used this text when in college. I am amazed at how wonderful this book is (I am not sure the author would agree with the grammatical structure of the previous sentence, but this is an informal review). The book is separated into 3 parts: Elements of Research, Techniques, and Experiments. The section on "Elements of Research" is wonderful and is a must read for all pchem students. This part is an excellent reference for any scientist. The "Techniques" part is out of date as far as computers are concerned, but 4 out of the 6 chapters are still relevant dealing with glass handling/blowing, vacuum techniques, temperature measurements, and general instrumentation guts. The "Experiments" part makes up ~ 50% of the text (350 of 800 pages). These experiments represent a good range of both thermodynamics-related and quantum mechanics-related concepts.

Pretty good introduction to SAN technology and design principles

I thought this book was a good introduction into the basic technologies, design principles, and design considerations that go into building a high-performance SAN. I enjoyed the author's use of real life customer examples and also practical principles that almost seem obvious (after he states them of course).

My only complaint is the pejorative view of iSCSI technology -- he basically says you would have to be dumb as a post to use iSCSI, and therefore, doesn't give very much good information on it. Since I was looking for a relatively unbiased look at SAN's, this lowered my rating overall.

That aside though, this is a great starting point to understanding the in's and outs of SAN design and operation. I would recommend it to anyone.

Enjoyed the book

I think this book has done a great job of informing me about the task of SAN Design and contains bountiful information about Fibre Channel's prowess in SAN design. I will echo the sentiments of the other poster. iSCSI is never spoken about in a really positive light. I think this is perhaps a bit short sighted as there are differing performance needs for SAN design and a Designer would have to be silly not to look at every avenue.

I think Judd has written the book in a very informative manner and I enjoyed reading the footnotes about what "other" vendors have done or haven't done. I can always verify this on my own but I might not even think to look at certain aspects of a particular product. This book brings those extra topics into the discussion.

This "is" a Brocade book so we're talking about Brocade solutions here and I'm sure you'd read a slightly different version from Qlogic or McData but all in all it was pretty fair. Fair enough that I'm considering grabbing the book on Multiprotocol Routing. Regards

Good Brocade Content, Ignore the FUD

Overall, it isn't a bad book. The Brocade and fibre channel content is well done. The problem is this book just stinks of anti-iSCSI and Cisco product FUD. As long as you are aware of this going in, you will be fine. Make sure this isn't your only source of knowledge.

This is a fabulous book. I use it with my clients and have of course done the work myself. I am so glad it has been reprinted. Thom Rutledge's book/workbook can be used alone or in conjunction with a therapy practice. Serious work with lots of good writing to "lighten it up."

A very helpful resource!

First off I want to say that anything Thom writes is worth it's weight in gold. I work in the area of eating disorders and recommend all of Thoms books to my clients. He knows what he is talking about. The name Thom Rutledge is synonymous with recovery from any addiction whether it be codependency, eating disorders, substance use etc. This handbook is so very helpful and allows the reader to work at their own pace. I hear from women all the time about how much they gained from not only reading this book but by working through it applying the tools to their lives. Thank you Thom!

A Compendium of the Gospel

This book on the Holy Rosary has been read by saints and sinners alike. It is a must read, in my opinion, for understanding the greatness and power of this simple yet profound prayer. In a word, the Rosary is a meditation on the life of Christ. It is primarily a Trinitarian and Christocentric prayer as well as a Marian prayer. Some may say that the Rosary is another Catholic thing-that it is not meant for anyone with an once of intelligence. How interesting a statement? The late, Dr. Albert Einstein, said his Rosary on a daily basis. The late, Bishop Fulton J. Sheen, once stated that the best book that he ever read was titled: "Five for Sorrow, Ten for Joy"
written by a Methodist Minister named Neville Ward. I certainly concur that it is one of the best that I have ever read but the Secret of the Rosary remains my favorite. As Father Patrick Peyton, C.S.C., often remarked: "the family that prays together, stays together". Please pray it daily.

Good read

This is a good book and has a lot of promise. I will be reading the next one. The only problem I have with books that are written in a series is that it is usually so long between books that I tend to forget what is going on and have to go back and read the end of the last book to catch back up.

A Bit Awkward, but Overall Good

Zombie Island is about what happens after a zombie virus infects the world and what one girl goes through to survive it. It is told in a first person point of view that was very awkward at first. As the story goes on it gets much more comfortable and easy to follow. There were some spelling and grammatical issues, but it was still a good story overall.

Samantha, or Sam as she goes by, is a girl who has been surviving on her own for 6 months after the zombie virus hits. She is careful when she goes to look for supplies and even has a garden going on the roof of her building. On a trip into town for supplies she is attacked by the Zombie Warriors, a group of men that are basically horrible individuals. She is then rescued by a team of brothers, Reese and Ryder. They pick up another girl, Tobe along the way out of town and away from the Warriors. Sam keeps it together and it's not until later that she basically breaks down. She lets her typical girl insecurities take control of her. Also, she is constantly flipping back and forth between the two brothers and which one she likes better.

Ryder and Reese are some tough guys. Ryder is more of the dick and more closed off. Reese is the nice one who is trying to help others regardless. They basically keep the group alive for most of the story. Tobe was definitely damaged, but it was understandable why she had issues.

The zombies were true to lore. They were gruesome and mindless. They wrecked havoc on the group and definitely killed quite a few people. It was vivid and realistic which is refreshing when most "monsters" get romanticized. The ending was kind of corny, but tied up loose ends while leaving it open for interpretation on what happens next.

Could've been worse

The story is alright, but the characters were cookie-cutters and they needed a lot more depth to them. There were some attempts to try and flesh out the characters, but overall the attempts fell a little short because they just perpetuated the "cookie-cutter" personalities even more.
As much as I wanted to enjoy the zombie story, it just didn't have enough originality to make it an interesting read. A lot of the plot ideas are just re-hashed scenes from zombie flicks and the story borders on cliche. Some scenes just don't make any logical sense and overall the plotting needed a lot of work. I would have given the story a star or two more if there was more originality in the plot and characters.
The writing wasn't bad, I liked the author's voice and the story had a nice flow to it, but again, I felt there was a lack of creative control in the storytelling as well as the characters and plot.
If you want a run-of-the-mill zombie story, then sure, give this a go.
But if you're looking for something more on the original side, maybe elsewhere.

Essential Book for any Buddhist

I believe this is one of the only 5 star reviews I've ever given.

Why a Buddhist comic book? Because you can simply open it, point to a page and work on THAT THING. If you have children and they are curious about Buddhism, voila! You have a damn comic book! If there are folk about who think it's just about sitting in a pond pondering bellybuttons, just hand them the book. Memorize the lessons and appear wise to those around you (well, or just memorize them for your own well-being).

Illustrated learning is a foundation of understanding.
That is all.

Zen made simple, it can change your life, all good.

Zen is so simple, simplifies your life, is all good, actually it is like what Jesus taught,yes, I am educated enough to say so, and it is all in cartoon form.

Each panel is short, to the point, yet teaches a lesson. It may be common sense lessons, yet is so profound.

It truly changed my life. After studying Zen in boring, complicated, heavy books, this is all I needed. Absolutely delightful.

If you want to discredit or bash this book, go ahead, it only means you need to read it again, simple, easy, forgiving.

Keep this book close and read often.

I bought this book about 12 years ago and have looked through it many times since. In a move a few years ago I must have lost it in the shuffle and forgot all about it. I remembered it one night and got right on line and ordered it. I love this book. It puts simple Zen philosophies to a cartoon format that is enjoyable to read. I recommend this book to everyone!
