Great resource!

I purchased this toward the end of nursing school. I had the previous version already and loved it, but also like a few of the updates in this one. I love that you can look up the medical diagnosis in the front of the book and that there are possible Nandas listed. This was really helpful for making careplans! Mosbys is the only nursing diagnosis book I used, so I can compare it to others. This was the book that was most highly recommended by everyone I asked.

About the Author
Pamela Myers Kiser is the Watts-Thompson Professor of Human Service Studies at Elon University, where she has been a faculty member in the human service program since 1981. She was recognized as an outstanding teacher in 2007 as the recipient of the Daniels-Danielly Award for Teaching Excellence at Elon. In 2010 she was named the fourth Distinguished University Professor in Elon's history. Recognized for her expertise in experiential education, she has received awards at the state and national levels for teaching excellence in service-learning, and has presented at internship and service-learning conferences across the country and internationally. Additionally, she has provided consultation to colleges and universities both nationally and internationally on internships and service-learning. She holds a B.A. from Wake Forest University and the Master of Social Work degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Great insight into internships. I have been in school for a long time (lifelong learner), and it's good to see books and classes appear that actually prepare students for internships. Back in the day, that didn't happen. :) This is a well-written book, and it's also extremely insightful.

Indispensable for the Beginner

When I decided that I wanted to start painting, I bought five "How To" books. This one is my favorite, hands down. The book is well organized, well written, and contains a lot of beautifully detailed photographs. The author has kept the text to a minimum, letting the photographs do much of the talking, which works far better for me than other books that have more emphasis on written instruction.

In only 72 pages, every topic is covered, and no question is left unanswered. It begins with a brief history of the medium, then moves on to cover color, paint types, brushes, painting surfaces, tools, and techniques, as well as galleries of different painting styles. There's even a section on experimental approaches, such as stenciling and inventive scraping. Rather than presenting a series of exercises (as many books do), this author encourages experimentation and discovering your own personal style, an approach that really inspired me to pick up a brush and get started.

Also worth mentioning is that every photograph and illustration is in color . . . really GOOD color. This may sound like a no-brainer, but a few of the other books I purchased contained a lot of black-and-white photos. Hey, you can't learn to paint in black and white!

Experienced artists may find the material here a bit too rudimentary, but for the true novice, like myself, this book is a winner. If you're looking for that ONE book to get you started, this is it!

About the Author

Robert D Galliers was appointed Bentley University's inaugural University Distinguished Professor in July 2009, having served as Bentley's Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs since 2002. He was previously Professor of Information Systems at the London School of Economics; Professor of Business Management Systems and Dean of Warwick Business School; and Professor and Head of the School of Information Systems at Curtin University, Western Australia. He is editor-in-chief of the Journal of Strategic Information Systems, has published over 70 articles in many leading international journals, and authored or co-authored 11 books, including: Exploring Information Systems Research (Routledge, 2007); the bestseller Strategic Information Management (Routledge, 2009); Rethinking Management Information Systems (OUP, 1999), and IT and Organizational Transformation (Wiley, 1998).

Wendy L. Currie holds a PhD in Management and a BSc in Sociology. Currie is on the editorial board of ten academic journals and regularly publishes her research work. She currently serves as Hon Treasurer for the Fellowship of Postgraduate Medicine charity and is a Trustee of the Cardiovascular Research Trust. She regularly consults on the interface between business, management and technology and has recently completed assignments with Microsoft, Mouchel, 7 Layer, Deloitte, the Church of England and Barclays Capital.

Palmira Fontes da Costa holds a PhD in History of Science from the University of Cambridge and is Assistant Professor in Historiography and History of Science at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa (FCT). She is also a Member of the Interuniversitary Centre of History of Science and Technology (CIUHCT, Lisbon). Her areas of expertise are the history of medicine and the history of natural history during the early modern period. She is the author of The Singular and the Making of Knowledge at the Royal Society of London in the Eighteenth Century, 2009 and, among others, the editor, of Percursos na História do Livro M�dico 1450-1800, 2011 (edited with A. Cardoso) and O Corpo Insólito: Dissertações sobre Monstros no Portugal do s�culo XVIII, 2005.
