About the Author
David C. Funder is Distinguished Professor of Psychology and former chair of the department at the University of California, Riverside. Winner of the 2009 Jack Block Award for Distinguished Research in Personality, he is a former editor of the Journal of Research in Personality, and a past president of the Association for Research in Personality as well as the Society for Personality and Social Psychology. He is best known for his research on personality judgment and has also published research on delay of gratification, attribution theory, the longitudinal course of personality development, and the psychological assessment of situations. He has taught personality psychology to undergraduates at Harvey Mudd College, Harvard University, and the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and continues to teach the course every year at the University of California, Riverside.

Perfect intro to Personality Psych

Product is great introduction of personality psychology and how it is measured. I won't be selling this one back. Written using vernacular that is easy to understand whether you have a background in psychology or not.

this book is as good as it gets

Used this for a large personality class in Winter 2013. I think the book is as good or better than anything else out there. I searched for a good text for my upper division university students, and chose this one rather than the one I used last year that studied theorists and their stories. I decided it is best to use an overview book because personality is getting so complex, it is perhaps the most complex topic in psychology. I also teach abnormal psychology and find the personality course more complex, because abnormal psych can rely on the DSM-IV as a teaching paradigm. There is not central paradigm for teaching personality, so it's a complex topic. The author takes so many different views on each topic that it can be challenging reading. Yet that is the gift he gives in this book -- that he is ethical and fair. He doesn't state opinions that are not true, not even half-truths. He gives as many possible views on personality as possible and does not get on the psychological/empirical high-horse and pretend personality research is clear. For example in the chapter on culture and personality, he doesn't claim that culture determines personality in any specific ways, which would be tempting to do if an author was in to oversimplification. Rather, he shows how it's complex and that is the beauty of personality. This is advanced scholarly learning--to hold back and not get to the point in a simplistic way, because getting to the point would be inaccurate. As a teacher I balanced the text with lecture information that included some fun and solid "points" and take-away learning, so the students had something solid to hang on to. In that way I think the students had a balanced class experience, and the reviews were good. Students who actually read the book were well-informed by the end of the quarter and could talk intelligently about personality.
I held back one star, because I do think this book needed more animation, pictures, images. I understand he took these out, but it does lack visual stimulation. But again, the writing is thorough. And --don't forget, this book is $60 cheaper than other books with identical information perhaps presented less well. Choosing texts that not inflated in terms of price is important, so I am glad they sell this book at a reasonable price. Also this book is used at so many universities, it's not hard to resale this book.

Very little actual content, and biased

I used this book for a college course on personality, and didn't get anything from it. It's very long and winding, and there is little to no justification for points made. I didn't feel like I could trust the author to deal with topics evenhandedly, after seeing in several points that he had left out key sides to a debate and presented one (often not even the predominant one) as wholly correct - I would have just assumed this as trustworthy if I hadn't had previous background on these topics, and wonder what he did to the presentation of others I hadn't encountered before.

Not worth the time, if you have a choice don't buy this. If you do, make sure you read something else on the topics presented or you could end up with a very warped view. There are lots of great textbooks that delve into similar issues and do so much more concisely and robustly.

Propaganda or Truth? - Much needed perspective

This book is an important first step in understanding the corporate world, and what the ideaology of "profit over everything" is doing to the natural and human world.
Some ideas from Paul Hawkin's "The Ecology of Commerce" (but don't believe him...look it up):
*we have decimated ninety-seven percent of the forests in North America
*every day we draw out 20 billion more gallons of water from the ground than are replaced by rainfall
*the Ogalala Aquifer, an underwater river beneath the Great Plains larger than any body of fresh water on earth, will dry up within thirty to forty years at present rates of extraction
*globally we lose 25 billion tons of fertile topsoil every year, the equivalent of all the wheatfields in Australia
Call that "leftist BS" if you will, but there is something going on in the world that will reveal it self whether you are or are not looking. Our current business practices are destroying the very infrastructure on which our business ideaology is built upon. If you don't think so, you haven't been paying attention.

An extremely foretelling, Orwellian, and stimulating book !

Trilateralism is a magnificient collection of essays that tackle the trilateral commission's policies for world management and domination.
Even though this book was published over twenty years ago, it gives you the sense of the here and now, because we are witnessing and living today most of these poilicies that the elites have planned for us many years ago. The projected theories of the past have become the policies of the present.
This book will provide the reader with a very educating and enlightening experience.

Outstanding Work of Scholarship

I bought this book yesterday and read it in one day. Right now I plan to buy copies for several people I believe would benefit from the information contained in this volume. This book provides a translation and a contextualized summary of each of the written references to early Islam by Syriac Christians, in chronological order. This book is suitable for specialists and non-specialists alike, but those familiar with 7th century Middle Eastern History will derive the most benefit from this work. Much of the scholarship on Muslim-Christian interaction is based on Byzantine or Frankish sources and the history of Islam is written using sources written in Arabic. By translating the early Syriac sources, Penn provides an overlooked point of view in early Islamic history and Muslim-Christian interaction, of Christians who lived within the caliphate as Islam developed in the Rashidun and Umayyad caliphates.

This was a good book. I agree with A.J. though, on his review points, however I must also admit I read most of A.J.'s papers available on academia so I may be a bit biased. Overall though it was a good read and great for someone getting started in this subject area.

Masterpiece

It's no surprise that this play, one of the finest I have ever seen, won considerable international acclaim. I would not hesitate to rank it among the top ten masterpieces of 20th century drama.

Plays come and go, but this one, first produced at London's Royal Court in 1995, has all the hallmarks of a timeless treasure. It's drama, and poetry, full of unbelievably rich characterizations and history of Ireland's Time of Troubles.

Thomas Dunne, the seventy-something Da, anchors the play firmly, though not exactly in the play's here and now, about 1932.

Three of Da's four children have relegated him to an Irish county home, not for lack of love. No, Da's gone mad, as his effervescent lapses into the past make altogether real.

He is not so mad, though, not to know the truth of things, and there is the beauty in this Lear-like drama.

Play-lovers will melt on reading or hearing the final 15-minute soliloquy of this masterpiece. Da tells about a dog he had as a child, a dog his father did not want him to have, one that he brought home anyway.

"And I knew that dog and me were for slaughter. My feet carried me on to where he stood, immortal you would say in the door. And he put his right hand on the back of my head, and pulled me to him so that my cheek rested against the buckle of his belt....

"And I would call that the mercy of fathers, when the love that lies in them deeply like the glittering face of a well is betrayed by an emergency, and the child sees at last that he is loved, loved and needed and not to be lived without, and greatly."

That hint of the powerful closing, though, is just the beginning. For the play proves equally rich throughout.

If you can't see the play, you should still read it.

This is a wonderful play. I saw it performed at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and was drawn in by the beauty of the language and the power of the story. It's quiet, at first; and then the drama of a man left behind by history gradually insinuates itself into your consciousness and your heart.

I love most Irish playwrights and novelists, but this play was a dreary, over-written clunker of a memory play.

Did not care for the writing at all -- monologue heavy, all of the burden on the central character, dreary setting, a memory play with no real action. Almost unplayable for the central character. And onstage, in 2013, at the Mark Taper in Los Angeles, Brian Dennehey seemed to have regretted signing on for the project. He gave a couple of newspaper interviews that indicated he had no idea why he had agreed to do this. The script is a dreary read. That production was a dreary slog.

Wilson had thrilling events that risked the lives of everyone’s favorite characters, dramatic plot twists that kept you on your toes, and an irresistible romance that leaves the reader yearning for a connection like it.

In Shadowed Strengths, Darren, Mel’s father, revealed that she was in fact a were like himself and Jeremy. Those dramatic changes in her weight, emotions and senses are proof that she is a cynanthrope and that her father is the pack leader. Because her first shift is nearing, Darren asks Mel to come back with him to Kentucky, to where his pack is, to shift and get used to life as a were. When she does not agree to coming, Darren puts forth a compromise. That compromise is that Jeremy could come with her if his parents agree. When Jeremy was talking with his parents about going to Kentucky with Mel, some vital information is revealed that makes explains why Jeremy moved around so much and why his parents said that they were the only cynanthropes that they know of.

When they arrive in Kentucky, Mel and Jeremy are given warm welcomes from everyone there, especially Declan or Angel boy. Jeremy immediately feels like there is something wrong with Declan, and he is easy to show it in front of everyone.

Suspicious things happen and Jeremy has a meeting with death. His parents’ past has come back to haunt him, in a deadly way.

This thrilling story kept me on my toes and yearning for more, this is a one sitting read, lock all doors, turn off phones, and leave civilization book that I am absolutely in love with. Everyone who reads this book with want a Jeremy of their own and have him and Declan fighting over them. This will be a story that I will keep close to my heart no matter where and how old I am.

The adventure continues in this fun sequel filled with great characters, mystery, and an awesome ending :)

Wendi Wilson has done it again with Shadowed Instincts, the second installment in the Shadowed Series. It's rare that a sequel can match the intensity of the original, but this book does just that and then some. Great pacing, characterization and plot are just a few of the reasons you need to read this book!

Shadowed Instincts was a quick read, and I attribute that not only to Wendi's streamlined writing style, but also to a spot-on sense of pacing. There is a subtle momentum that builds with every scene, guiding the reader to a conclusion that will be sure to surprise.

I fell in love with Mel in the first book, but the way her character further develops in this book only makes me love her more. I love her irrationality, given the circumstances she's in. She's still flawed, but in a different and believable way.

The plot was brilliant - Wendi continued the mystery element and had me uncertain about the villain's identity and motive until the very end. Speaking of the ending, I appreciated the unexpected turn of events. Without giving anything away, I know it's going to make book three amazing and I can't wait to read it.

I highly recommend this book for a fun, YA paranormal romance adventure. Even though this book could stand alone, it builds nicely on the first book in the series, Shadowed Strength. Be sure to check them both out for the total experience. :)

I was not disappointed. It picks up right where the first book ...

After finishing Shadowed Strength (the first book in the series), I was really excited for Shadowed Instincts. I was not disappointed. It picks up right where the first book left off. There are so many twists and turns in this book, and I was not expecting hardly any of them. There was one that I guessed a little bit at the end, but I really only guessed a fraction of it, so I was still left thinking, "WOW!"

I can't believe the way this book ended! I hope Ms. Wilson finishes writing the third book soon, because I really want to know what happens! I really enjoyed reading this book.
